The sound of Miami
BEY BEY - MIAMI | Architectural Acoustics + Tailored Audio Solution
When BeyBey opened in Miami’s Sunset Harbour, the goal was great food and atmosphere, and creating an acoustic environment that feels right from lunchtime through nightlife. In this case study, we break down the challenges we faced, the strategies we deployed, and the outcomes that helped shape a space that’s both lively and comfortable for guests and staff alike.
CHALLENGES
- Concave ceiling over main bar area creating sound focussing effects
- General acoustic treatment considerations for a balanced sonic environment across the various rooms
- Sound system selection and distribution from client's pre-owned Funktion One and Meyer Sound systems
STRATEGIES
- Fully absorbing surface with NRC0.9 material to dampen sound, as well as a carefully placed sound system to avoid sending energy into the concave surface
- Architectural acoustics simulation to achieve desired reverberation times, speech intelligibility and music clarity
- Audio simulation to achieve an even sound coverage in terms of SPL maps as well as uniform frequency response data across the venue

ACOUSTIC AND AUDIO SIMULATION DATA

Acoustic and electro-acoustic simulations were used to predict how sound would behave throughout the venue before construction and system tuning. Using a detailed 3D model, we evaluated sound propagation, reverberation time, clarity, and sound pressure levels to ensure balanced energy, intelligibility, and even coverage across all areas. This simulation-driven approach allowed the acoustic environment to be optimized for atmosphere and comfort while avoiding excessive volume, echo, and listener fatigue.
